Press Release - December Mud

humberMUD @ Studio Eleven, Humber Street, Hull, HU1 1TG
Thursday, December 16th 2010. 6-9pm. FREE ENTRY!

The latest regular monthly gathering of networking and knowledge-sharing organisation humberMUD will explore, expose and bust the myths surrounding the city's broadband infrastructure. The event will also include live poetry and the launch of new poetry collection The Hull Connection.

humberMUD relocates to new gallery Studio Eleven on Humber Street for this one-off festive forum. Guest panellists Councillor John Robinson (Hull City Council's portfolio holder for Image and Culture and member of the Yorkshire and Humberside Regional Broadband Joint Committee), Martin Lauer (The One Point) and Simon Davison (Fibrestream) are expected to engage in a 'heated debate' regarding Hull's broadband offer, alternative options to KC and what the future of 'connectivity' in the city and the East Riding holds.

Hull poet Peter Knaggs, joined by some special guests, will launch new collection The Hull Connection at MUD. The book, published by Muesli Jellyfish, has been painstakingly edited by Peter for several months and MUD is delighted to be able to act as the launchpad for this stunning collection of work. Copies of The Hull Connection will be available to purchase on the night.

The exploration of the 'Hull voice' will continue with local legend Mike Watts, who will read work from his recently published Coming to a Street Near You. Mike will also share his experiences having seen his work become available for download on a variety of electronic platforms, including the Kindle and iPhone, and what this means for the role of the poet.

HumberMUD chair Mal Williamson said: “Once again, we demonstrate that MUD successfully brings together the best creative talent and business. We're expecting this Christmas MUD to be a very unique evening that combines meaningful debate with high quality art and performances.

“The broadband debate is continually raging in Hull and we're hoping to bring some semblance of sense to that debate. We'll be asking how concerned we need to be regarding the unique broadband services we have access to, whether we're on a par with the rest of the country and what's in store in the years ahead.”

The evening starts at 6pm with free Fudge food, drinks and festive snacks. Speakers and performances take place at 7-9pm and are followed by networking and music from DJ The Reverend. Entry is FREE and anyone with an interest in the media and creative sectors is welcome to attend.
