MUD headed back to the cold expanse of Fruit this month for a mixed bag that took in crisis PR, photoblogging and the hot topic of Hullness. An industrial blower, cranked up between speakers, kept the climate tolerable for the die-hard MUD folk that made the effort on this chilly January evening.

An intimate venue, a raging debate and live performances - not to mention free food and drink – are the ingredients that make a classic MUD. And that's what December had as MUD crossed the road to Studio Eleven on Humber Street, with KC prepared to put themselves in the firing line, while two poets looked on wondering if they'd turned up to perform on the wrong night.

Somebody, somewhere, probably mumbled under their breath that it couldn’t be done. Four days of humberMUD activity?  And most of it free to enter? Does not compute. 

Yet there’s no holding this creative co-operative and its growing membership down and four days of activity, with six diverse events, were exactly what was on offer at the first – but surely not the last – humberMUD expo!

FRuIT already feels like home for humberMUD. This second event held in the area tagged “one of the coolest places in Hull” was an undoubted success, with MUD's community turning out in force yet again.

A sizeable crowd turned out to experience the first humberMUD in a new venue – the atmospheric, multi-function space FRuIT. The new home certainly adds something to the usual mix of speakers, networking opportunities and knowledge sharing and the 'good vibes' that MUD is renowned for are further enhanced by this unique space. It was also clear that a certain amount of business was done throughout the night.

July 2010

Fitting that, on an evening when Vinayan Kodoth's award-winning film Journeys was screened, it was announced that humberMUD is on the move. July's MUD was the last, then, to take place at temporary home Fudge. From August 19, chair Mal Williamson announced, humber will take place within Fruit, a venue located in the historic Fruit Market area of the city that promises to be Hull’s most exciting entertainment and arts space. The usual day will also change as a result of the venue shift: The third Thursday of each month is now earmarked for our increasingly popular and regular gatherings of creatives and business.
